Marie Virolle is an ethnologist responsible for research at the CNRS (UPR 414).

She has published numerous articles on oral tradition in Algeria, noticeably on rituals and sung poetry, in specialized journals, and is author of La chanson raï (Paris: Karthala, 1995).

She co-directs GERCHAMM (Research Group on the Songs and Musics of the Maghreb and of Immigration) at the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme.
