Softball Rules:
1) Each game will consist of six (6) innings or
55 minutes from scheduled game time.
Official Game -
• 3 1/2 innings are completed with home team ahead
• 4 innings are completed with visiting team ahead
• After the fourth inning if the visiting team goes ahead,
the home team must bat in the bottom half of the inning.
o Ten (10) run inning rule - when batting team scores the tenth
run of inning, regardless of number of outs, they will automatically
go out to the field. *Exceptions:
• 10 Plus runs scoring via a hit which clears the bases.
• If a team is behind, they may score runs until they lead
by ten (10) runs.
o Fifteen (15) run mercy rule (after 3 1/2 innings) If visiting
team is ahead, home team will bat in bottom half.
o Team may start game with a minimum of eight (8) players, if
team goes down to seven (7) players, game is over. Maximum of
ten (10) players in the field with one optional EH for a total
of eleven (11) batters. The EH may change from inning to inning,
just as any field position, but the batting order must stay the
same.
o Teams may provide own bats, (which must be "Official Softball"
bats) and gloves. Players must wear fielders gloves while in the
field. Catchers must wear protective equipment when catching (mask).
o No bat throwing . . . if done, batter is automatically out;
runners return.
o No stealing, runner(s) are allowed to leave the base only after
ball is struck by the bat. If runner(s) leave too soon; runner
is out (dead ball).
o No bunting.
o Profanity Rule - If done by the batting team, batter is automatically
out. (If it occurs on the third out, that team will have the next
batter out in the following inning). If done by the fielding team,
runner(s) advance one base. If no runners are on base, batter
is awarded second base.
o Intentional Walk, pitcher indicates such, batter awarded first
base.
o Coed Walk Rule - When a male hitting before a female in the
batting order walks, the offensive team has the option of additionally
sending the female batter to first base (advancing all forced
runners) or to let the female batter take her turn at bat. If
the female elects to bat, the base runners still have option of
advancing one base.
o On the second batted "foul ball" after second strike,
batter is out. If foul ball is caught, ball is still in play.
o Infield fly rule is in effect (less than two outs, runners on
at least first and second).
o No running deliberately into a fielder attempting a tag. If
done, runner is out. Malicious contact will result in an immediate
ejection. Feet-first slides are allowed. No head first sliding,
will result in runner being automatically called out.
o Between innings pitcher is allotted five (5) warm-up pitches
or one (1) minute after last out is recorded, whichever comes
first.
o Umpires check with captains as to number of runs scored.
o Appeals can be made to the umpire.
