CHE Participant Wins 'Preserve America' Teaching Award!

West Baltimore Middle School teacher and CHE Master Teacher K. Wise Whitehead has been named Preserve America Maryland History Teacher of the Year for 2006.  The award is a White House Initiative dedicated to supporting "community efforts to preserve and enjoy our priceless cultural and national heritage" (go to www.preserveamerica.gov/ to learn more about the award).

Whitehead received a $1000 award and materials for her school.  The 7th grade teacher is also an Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker, creator of "The Twin Towers:  A History," among other works.  This year she also received the Lord Baltimore Research Fellowship from the Maryland State Archives to continue her research on nineteenth century African-American women (go to More Headlines for the story).
