Poster: Bovine Lameness Detection
Bovine lameness is a serious humanitarian concern and a costly problem for the US dairy industry. A mechanical lameness detection system developed at UMBC has been continuously collecting three dimensional time-series force data from a herd of 750 dairy cows since 2012. This is a large p small n problem. To detect lameness, we use stepwise variable selection and a hierarchical logistic regression model to predict scores from a veterinary examination. Our method achieves (cross-validated) sensitivity and specificity above 90 percent.
