Paper: Methods of Cluster Re-indexing and Evaluation

Cluster evaluation is a cumbersome task due to the mismatch of the cluster label obtained by clustering techniques and the exact label of the known clusters. In this paper we introduce some statistics for re-indexing cluster labels obtained by clustering techniques and discuss efficient matching with the known cluster index. These methods are based on simple distance measures and on formal statistical methods and are computed using information from the exact or target clusters and the clusters obtained by clustering techniques. In particular, a good matching strategy considers the intra-cluster minimums of these statistics and we then replace the cluster label with the re-indexed label. We used these methods to analyze simulated and real data sets using different clustering algorithms and to compare the results with popular cluster evaluation measures.
