Hometown: Kampala, UgandaCuriosity and a love of learning have served Josephine well. While waiting for a class to begin one day, she overheard a lecture on data mining. Fascinated, she began researching the topic through an independent study and eventually published several articles, including in the Journal of Medical Systems. Throughout her graduate school career, Josephine has been a role model for many, serving as an advisor in the Global Health Corps for four years, in the Women of Color in STEM affinity group in the AAAS Science and Technology Fellows Program, and as a UMBC Cyber Scholars Program mentor. She has been a leading voice in UMBC’s Graduate Organization for Information Systems, serving as president for three years. Josephine is a multi-year recipient of a U.S. Department of Education GAANN Fellowship, which recognizes her work in an area of great national need. After receiving multiple offers for tenure track faculty positions, she has accepted a position as assistant professor of management science and information systems at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
