Romy is an inspiring leader in on- and off-campus communities alike. She spearheaded one of the most successful Graduate Research Conferences in the history of UMBC, as conference chair through the UMBC Graduate Student Association. With support from other leaders on campus, she is also coordinating the national Imagining America conference, hosted by UMBC for the first time this summer. She is actively involved in civic engagement and has played an integral role in shaping and advancing UMBC’s BreakingGround initiative. She has served as GSA Vice President and GSA Senator for Language, Literacy and Culture. She also serves on ten campus committees representing the GSA community. In the coming months, she will continue as a fellow with Imagining America: Artists and Scholars in Public Life, a consortium of over 100 higher education institutions and cultural organizations. She plans to use her experiences to pursue opportunities to promote active learning and civic engagement in higher education.
