José S. Buenconsejo teaches ethnomusicology and music history at the College of Music, University of the Philippines at Diliman. In 1993 he received a master's degree in music from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and in 1999 he received the Ph.D. in the same discipline from the University of Pennsylvania.
