İstanbul Ansiklopedisi (Tüzün) Researcher. I base most of the observations and opinions of this paper on my research as a participant-observer in Turkey during a specific period of time and much reflection since. I studied ney with Akagündüz Kutbay as one aspect of my study of Turkish classical and Sufi music (19701972). I performed on the ney at the Mevlana Festival in Konya (1971) and on the United States tour of a Mevlevi ensemble led by a Ulvi Erguner (1972). Although specific circumstances of public Mevlevi performances vary, the problem of ambiguous words remains. |
