For the price of admission, tourists, government
officials, and believers alike are invited to "re-creations" of the Mevlevi
ritual in Konya, Istanbul, Europe, and America. Even at private devotions in
dervish lodges (tekkeler) and homes in Konya and Istanbul, outsiders
are graciously welcomed and permitted to observe.

It seems safe to assume that each
observer's response to the ritual can range from fervent devotion, to
philosophical agreement,
to esthetic appreciation of the music and dance,
to touristic curiosity. Or any combination of those responses.
