The ornate palace at Versaille became the center of French power under King Louis XIV when he moved the Royal court here in 1682. King Louis XIV started building the Palace in 1668 and it was completed by 1690. Over the next 100 years, the palace was the center of opulence, excess and splendor completely ignoring the populace of France. Sacked during the French Revolution in 1789 the palace was restored in the Napoleonic Era. |
