Dr. Jesse Baumgold attended Oberlin College as an undergraduate, and obtained his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from the University of Rochester Medical Center. He obtained post-doctoral training at the NIH, and remained there for several years as a Staff Scientist. He then moved to The George Washington University Medical Center as an Associate Professor in the Pharmacology and Radiology Departments. During his academic career, he published over 50 scientific papers in the field of receptor-mediated signal transduction, and was highly successful in attracting grant support for his research program.
In 1994, Dr. Baumgold left academia to found Receptor Biology Inc at the UMBC Business Incubator Program. This company provided research reagents and services to the drug discovery community. Receptor Biology graduated from the incubator program in 1997, and was acquired by NEN Life Sciences (now PerkinElmer Life Sciences) in 2000. Dr. Baumgold retains his passion for entrepreneurial companies and currently serves on the Board of the UMBC Incubator Program, as well as several other small companies.
