TechGuard Security Moves DC Operations to the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) Technology Center

BALTIMORE, MD (May 24, 2004) - TechGuard Security LLC announced Monday that the company has relocated Maryland operations to the techcenter@UMBC. The move will provide the growing company with the opportunity to work with the University resources in cutting edge technology development and focus on their mission to secure the US Critical Infrastructure, while improving visibility and proximity to TechGuard's core clients—the US Intelligence community and Department of Defense.

Johnny Flores , Director of DC Operations, is excited about the support that techcenter@UMBC has presented. "I have already met with the Maryland Lt. Governor and CIO, developed a networking event, and had two leads for potential contracts in our first week at the UMBC Technology Center."

TechGuard President, Suzanne Magee Joyce , adds that the Company is also pursuing the establishment of Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) space at the UMBC Technology Center for their high-level artificial intelligence security product development.

About techcenter@UMBC: UMBC's technology incubator, founded in 1989, was expanded in 1996 when UMBC purchased the 30-acre five-building Lockheed Martin Research Lab facility site and renamed it techcenter@UMBC.

Phase II is bwtech@UMBC , a 41-acre research and technology community being developed by the international commercial real estate firm Grosvenor in collaboration with UMBC. bwtech@UMBC has a total development capacity of up to 330,000 square feet of office and laboratory space. The park will ultimately comprise five new state-of-the-art buildings occupied by research and technology firms.

"Graduates" of techcenter@UMBC are eligible to locate at bwtech@UMBC. One building at bwtech@UMBC is currently occupied by RWD Technologies, and a second building is under construction for delivery in summer 2004. The new building is designed for either office or wet lab space.

The companies at techcenter@UMBC and bwtech@UMBC Research and Technology Park provide a total of about 500 jobs, including more than 30 UMBC students. The companies work closely with 40 UMBC faculty and staff.
