Philip Ciantar holds an MA in music (Ethnomusicology) from the University of Durham (UK).
His research interests include semiotics of music, word-music relationship and the ethnography of music; he has carried out fieldwork trips to Libya and Tunisia.
He is co-author of an article on Maltese traditional music for the second edition of The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians.
