Gabriele Marranci received his MA degree in Music (Anthropology of Music) at the University of Bologna.

His research is on Algerian raï music in France and he carried out his fieldwork in Paris. Presently he is studying the relationship between gender and musical identity in Algerian immigration.

He has written some articles on the different aspects of raï music in France.
