Biography

Velitchkina photo Olga Velitchkina (Kane) is ABD in ethnomusicology at Ohio State University, USA. She was born in Moscow in 1963 and graduated from Moscow Conservatory in 1987

At Moscow Conservatory, she studied musical folklore of the rural population of West and South Russia. She carried out field work there over a period of ten years, with special attention to instrumental music (fiddle, panpipes). She also participated in various urban revivalist groups and taught a children's folk ensemble, which originally brought her attention to learning panpipes.
