UMBC Community Meetings

What defines us is not whether crises happen, but how we respond to them. How is UMBC continuing to redefine excellence in higher education at the intersection of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Black Lives Matter Movement, and economic disruption?

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to share your stories and learn together in a series of virtual gatherings during the 2020-21 academic year.

What is the difference between free speech and hate speech?
Is hate speech protected?
Can I be disciplined for my speech online? What about in a classroom?

Help us start a community discussion about the challenges of balancing our shared commitments to free speech and equity and inclusion.
