Help Desk
The Incubator and Accelerator's Help Desk is a statewide resource available to incubator/emerging companies. The Help Desk is a free mentoring program that is supported in part by the Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) Incubation Best Practice Grant. The Director of Entrepreneurial Services coordinates with business professionals to visit the tech center each month and share expert knowledge in areas from venture capital to marketing. This program is an excellent resource to obtain vital information and networking exposure. Contact David Fink at 410-455-5856 for more details.

Idea Lab
The Idea Lab supports UMBC faculty and student entrepreneurs and affiliates engaged in the start-up or running of high technology businesses by providing affordable space, business advice and mentoring. Additionally, the Idea Lab is available to entrepreneurs who desire admittance into the Incubator Program, but need to accomplish specific milestones on an interim basis. Direct benefits of the Idea Lab include:

  • A place to develop/refine your business idea and determine market feasibility;
  • A nice environment to work on your business plan
  • 24 hour access to office resources, equipment and the Internet;
  • A place to meet with your business team and advisors;
  • Invaluable interaction with bwtech@UMBC staff and other business professionals (such as accountants, lawyers, bankers, venture capitalists, marketers, human resources professionals and technology consultants) capable and willing to coach/guide you through the start-up process of a new business.
Student minimum requirement for the Idea Lab:
  • At least a sophomore at UMBC
  • Minimum GPA of 2.50
  • Required to meet monthly with selected business advisors to report and measure progress in the Idea Lab.
